Design and Technologies

This Web Quest is designed for the creation of relevant and engaging resources for use with the teaching of Technology is aligned with the Australian Curriculum, (ACARA, 2015).  The Web Quest will focus on the following area of Technology and its selected content descriptors.

Design and Technologies Years 5 - 6

(ACTDEK020) Investigate how electrical energy can control movement, sound or light in a designed product or system, (ACARA, 2015).

Students will use design and technologies in combination with the Key Learning Area of Science to explore (ACSSU097) Electrical energy can be transferred and transformed in electrical circuits and can be generated from a range of sources, (ACARA, 2015).  The following complementary content descriptor was chosen to assist students in the safe operation and handling of equipment during the explore phase of the Scientific inquiry.

(ACTDEP026) Select appropriate materials, components, tools, equipment and techniques and apply safe procedures to make designed solutions, (ACARA, 2015).

Students will build on prior knowledge to clarify their thinking, creativity, analysis, problem-solving and decision-making skills.  Students will explore how things work, examine and create design solutions for a sustainable future.  Students will engage in the 5e Instructional model to engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate a scientific inquiry.

Flick the switch

Flick the switch is a web quest created for Year 6 students to critically examine different types of technology within the engineering principles and systems context.

Students will explore and investigate the properties of a simple electric circuit in a torch.  Students will explore different types of electrical circuits as well as a range of electrical sources.   Students will design a functional electrical system for their dream home.  As well as ICT rich resources, students will be able to use graphs and diagrams to explain and elaborate their findings.
